Two hundred twenty-two years ago, on November 18, 1803, General François Capoix known as Capoix La Mort led Haitian forces into the Battle of Vertières. A key figure in General Jean-Jacques Dessalines’ plan to seize Cap-Français, Capoix spearheaded the charge against one of the world’s most powerful armies. L’Armée Indigène defeated the French expedition led by Leclerc and Rochambeau, which sought to reinstate slavery in Saint-Domingue, thereby securing Haiti’s path to independence.
It was a defining moment rooted in tenacity, courage, and the unyielding will to live freely. Exactly 222 years later, on that same date, November 18, 2025, Haiti’s National Football Team gave the nation yet another reason to honor this historic day.

Different Centuries. Different Struggles. Same Spirit.
This moment transcends football. After 52 years away from the World Cup, generations of Haitian fans finally witness their nation’s return. Haiti is going back to the World Cup.
It is more than a sporting milestone, it is proof of what can be achieved when we refuse to surrender.
